I'm with Fiona.. I have a rule, never pay over £10 for any item of clothing. Drives the kids mad, but they never ask for any designer labels.

I get most of my clothes for birthday or Christmas, as I hate clothes shopping anyway. When I do shop, it's usually TK Maxx or the Matalan clearance outlet near us. TK Maxx is usually good for 'brand' stuff but cheap as it's 'last season'. Matalan Clearance outlet is a crapshoot, you never know what they'll have and nothing's in any order, but there's bargains. My 'sunday best' chino trousers came from there, and cost 20p!!!

Other than that I wear Scotland and Holland footie tops sometimes, or motorbike related gear, but again usually buy 'last season' stuff or even 2nd hand. Many moons ago, before I had a mortgage, child, (or any common sense!) I'd think nothing of paying £80-100 for a pair of Nikes or Levis. I'd never spend that now, and am not into labels anyway. I get more of a kick out of finding a bargain!!

Without doubt, my best ever clothes bargain was my pair of brand new Church's shoes. I paid 55 quid. They're usually about 350. Had them 10 years, wear them most work days, had them resoled once and they still look awesome. They also feel like your feet are being massaged by a handful of Japanese maidens.

Other bargains include 150 for a brand new Gieves and Hawkes blazer, 100 for a new Austin Reed chalk stripe suit and an obscenely tiny amount for a Jaeger 3/4 length coat.

Shirts, on the other hand.....

My best bargain was a black Timberland fleece TGLM bought me over 20 years ago. I still wear it regularly, and it's still like new. Well, nearly new, anyway.

The only expensive item I usually by is a new ospreys rugby top each season which are about £45 after season ticket holder discount. I did incur the wrath of the missus this year though when I swapped shirts with a Treviso supporter when we went over to Italy for a game, could have had one of their shirts for €25 from their club shop. I suppose that was a kind of anti-bargain.

If you live near Leeds the Crombie factory is in Kirkstall. 3 times a year they have a clearout and have a factory sale. Last year I got an £850 classic velvet collared crombie coat for £80. the shirts are about £5 and suits for £20.

Ach you have to treat yourself sometimes Kev! Also, you make a good point, Although I buy stuff fairly cheap mostly from Matalan outlet, TK Maxx or eBay, sometimes stuff can be even cheaper from Primark... BUT I find the jumpers and T-shirts stretch, the stitching on some of the jeans and trousers etc. isn't very good, so it's false economy really.
You might spend more on your Lacoste and Fred Perry but if you get longer out of them than similar cheaper items, then they're still good value

Unless it's a very nice hoodie (in winter) or a coat, I'll go by this rule as well. My two-year old has clothes that cost more than most of my get-up; I don't know how some places charge so much for tykes clothing.
