Hey guys, i'm looking for help in finding a Pearl DLX tom in 10x8 in sequoia red finish. I do know there is probably only about 6 of them in britain but i have seen 2 of those kits go on ebay in the last 4 years. If any body has one or knows someone who does and may want a good deal for it get in contact.

Cheers Guys.

I've been looking for DLX drums for a while now. Still kicking myself for not buying a mint condition Art Blakey kit (10, 12, 13, 14 Floor, 20 Bass) that was offered to me for £400!

Out of interest how did you estimate how many toms were available in Britain?

What are the sizes of your kit out of interest?

Hey Al, ok between May and December 1987 Pearl produced the last of their DLX japanese kits. These were available in Jazz sizes as standard for a short time only and were the very last dlx's ever produced. They were marketed as " Dlx Jazz Studio" kits and available in the Uk only. They were available as standard kits, DLX20-5 with 10x8, 12x8, 13x9, 14x14 ft, 20x14 Bd (£829.00) DLX 18-3 with 12x8,14x14ft, 18x14Bd (£581.00) or DLX 18-4 (same as DLX18-3 but with matching 14x5 maple shell snare) £775.
These kits were only ever available in 2 colours which differed from the normal depth kit colours in that they were new clours which were only available on the very new GLx, Blx and MLx kits introduced that year. These were sequoia red and natural birch.

I'm estimating Pearl probably only sold around 40-50 of these kits in that period due to their "unfashionable size" and if you imagine that with three models and 2 colours ie six options then 40-50 divided by 6 means probably 6 or 7 people went for the kit with the 10 inch tom. or that's my guess anyways.

My kit is the 12x8,13x9, 14x14,20x14 with a matching maple free floater in sequoia red which incidentally i got in showroom condition off the bay for £340...............eek!Bargaiiiiiin!

Hi Robbie, that sounds about right to me. Oddly enough I used to work in Talking Drums in 1988 and I remember the store stocking tens of DLX 18-3 kits in Sequoia Red. I guess power toms ruled the day and this ex-line was being sold off for peanuts. I reckon they must have shifted 20 or 30 of those kits.

If you ever want to move that kit on, I'd love first refusal!

Love those kits.

Hey Al, yeah looks like the tens are probably ultra rare. Anyways sorry but i'll never ever sell the little red kit. I own a masters birch, a masters premium 4ply birch and a starclassic bubinga elite and the Dlx blows them all away it'd the fattest sounding of them all tom wise. Astounding!
