Sounds like we will have Typhoons flying over us on training for the MacD Budweiser UPS Coke KFC Olympics, yehaarr, camera ready, battery charged!
However the more worrying news is that after weeks of rumour it now does look like there will be missile batteries dotted around, on HMS Ocean in the Thames, and at Blackheath, Oxleas Woods and on one or more tower blocks. So any hijacked plane or missile can be targeted and shot down to crash on us. Better getter brolly. |

Personally, I don't believe the military should be involved in Olympic security unless there is an agressive act that leads to fatalities. (i.e. Munich)
If the police can't handle it, why have them?

| I'm not too worried about the security. I have a lot of faith in our local boys and girls in the Met and the military. I'm more worried about the nutter that will try to circumvent them! I'm going for a day with the wife and 2 out of three kids. I'm not interested in sport in the least and really have no interest in the olympics, but the wife does. So, to get blown up by some nutter when I don't even want to be there will seriously pi$$ me off!!!!! |

I suspect there is a bit of Spin that has gone awry here with guns on the Roof scenario.
It hasn't been absolutely confirmed has it? "possibly" say the Beeb.
The public have not enthusiastically endorsed the idea as our Political masters might have hoped.
Isn't the threat of a hijacked airliner or Helicopter the reason we have an Air Force?
I wouldn't want to be some rich bigwig in a chopper (Noel Edmunds) or a traffic cop when the SAMS start flying toward some idiot in a microlite who is trying to get a better view.

I love it!
But very glad to get out of it sometimes too.
You probably realised why sensible ones (like me) do most journeys on bike rather than driving, I try not avoid driving between 7 am and 7 pm and that makes things much more bearable. |

Indeed so! and could result in more damage than an actual attempt. I would hope that during this intensive period Air Traffic will have some emergency processes in place.
Why not just stick it on a Greek island and have done with it? |

Not much English about these Olympics, apart from the organisers, and they seem determined to exclude anything British as far as possible. Really? Blimey! I think I might have to de-camp down to Squeak's place for the duration!
The organisers really seem to have turned something which could have been good for Britain into a bean feast for speculators and foreign corporations. Carp Management at its worst from what I can tell. |

I mean, no offence to them they have done some good pop music and have earned a place in music and music video history, but the date now is 2012, NOT 1985.
Rumour is that Muse were asked but wisely declined, probably because they dislike fakery and miming, and are not keen on the way 2012 is being so badly organised. |

Squeak and I saw them at Wembley 2 years ago. It takes a lot to impress me, and even more to move me (I believe that "jaundiced old hack" covers it!), but move and impress me they most certainly did, pomp, bravado and all.
The thing that gets me is that all the athletes are athleting live, all the paraders, are parading live, all speechifiers, medal presenters, dancers, caterers, cleaners and security guards are doing their jobs live, but musicians are expected to fake their job. Worse still, if any tech problems do happen (which is not uncommon at huge events), for instance if someone pulls the plug out on the pre-recorded music, the audience will blame the musicians for cheating/selling out/being carp, rather than blaming the organisers who made the decision to fake it. |

We were there at Wembley too Cap'n - thoroughly great show.
Unfortunately some folk mistake their slight quirky / nerdiness with arrogance - far from it, they are a decent bunch of down to earth lads ( a friend of mine used to do a fair amount of work at Chris's (Bass) home) and said you could not have met a nicer bloke, all of them quite humble in many ways. They are also the good old band story of being mates from the early days and have stuck with it - right to the point of being able to make a hell of a lot of money from a hell of a racket, but in style ! Wembley was great but I found their slightly smaller earlier gigs just brill - extra loud (Wembley had to keep the neighbours happy) but also clever music writing, only having the minimum of instruments but in order to leaving a lot of room for big sounds. Looking forward to their next album.
On the subject of the Olympics, I'm all for people having their say but I fear many are now eyeing the Olympics in order to bring a lot of attention to themselves and their own agendas - Our dear friend Trenton at the boat race looks like he may have reaffirmed the ease of being able to bring attention to the masses of the views of a few by spoiling things for the majority. Ok, their may be some not so ideal aspects about the Olympics but to spoil things for the wider audience is just selfish. Maybe instead of heat seeking missiles perched up on rooftops a far better idea would be a few snipers - with orders to shoot anything in a wetsuit ! |
