Title says it all... I love this set! Started cleaning it up and fixing some minor seam lifts on the wrap.
Sizes are imperial 20, 12, 14 , 16. It came with the orignal cases that have Premier badges on them. All original hardware in great shape.
Does anyone have any info on this kit? Is it a 1959? (Which model, production date stamp location, etc)

I know that it takes imperial heads. I'm sure this question has been asked many times... but where do you get heads for it? |

Very nice, can't help with details (before my time!) but heads can be bought from a little company somewhere between Canada and Mexico, something like Remo? Yes that sounds about right!
Or get Vellum heads if you want a warmer and slightly softer sound. nice photo too. |

Good Afternoon,
That's a very fine looking set Mr J. As to dating them accurately I am sure Cpt W can be definitive. A couple of pointers though...
The wrap on the FT and RT appears butt jointed, which is a feature of Premier drums during the 50s and earlier.
The bass mounted cymbal arm block is one of the earliest types, used until the early 60s I believe, I have one with a wing nut/ eyehole style setup.
Curiously the 12 looks to have been assembled for a southpaw. Do all the wraps match in terms of fade?
As Capt B says, Remo will supply you with the requisite heads. You will however need a file, the 12s require a bit of rub to the collar to make them fit.

| Thanks for the info! Yes the floor tom is more faded (yellowed) than the rest of the kit. It does have the push lever leg locking system... if that helps with year id. |

I forgot to mention that I bought it from Boston Drum Center in Acton MA USA. Great shop... great people. Check them out your for vintage and modern drum needs.
They even created a youtube video of the drum set being played. This sealed the deal for me.

first of all, try to save that rare logo head that's being used as a batter side on the bass, I know it looks like something that looks like it was glued on and not original BUT it is, it's the cardboard logo used before they silk screened the logos on the head. The bass heads look like the first plastic heads on the bass, big white collars that looked like flesh hoop collars, if you don't want them, I'll trade you for 2 new Remo heads of your choice
the modern heads will fit the floor tom but will be too big, so you'll need the Remo heads
I would say the kit is around 1958-59, just by dating it with the advent of the plastic bass head and just before they went to silk scvreening the logos |

Interesting... both bd heads are calf skin. I should reverse the heads save the logo.
When I had the 12 and 16 apart, I tried to fit some remo heads I had lying around. The 12 is actually 11 7/8. It will take a newer head ring will not fit inside the rim. The 16 floor is 16 5/16... an stardard 16 wouldn't even come close. I'm going to need imperial heads. |

Get the Remo PI ones, they're made for it funnily enough!
Forget about Everplays, only good for resonant sides.
CJ.... I may have one of those first generation Mylars in an 18 if yer interested...

Thanks, Andy, but only have one 18 inch bass drum in wmp and it has both heads |

I love WMP finishes - this is another great one. Congrats!
This 16" (first thought it must be an 18 incher) floor tom has 10 (ten!) lugs per side ... Wooow.

Ralf, pre-international 16" Premier came with 10 lugs - the easiest tell-tale for whether a 16" floor is pre-international or not.

Hi Spart
Thanks for the tip about filing the collar.I put a new head on my 12 a few months back and had to wressle it on.
That is new to me as well about the wrap butt jointed, i will have to check mine later
