I picked up this link in an earlier thread:
http://woodskin.com/

I really like the idea of the "FootTAM" under "products". The website is a bit light on info though so i am gonna email him separately.

Does anyone know of any other similar products? I've had a good look through Thomann today and whilst there seems a lot of items that attach to the cajon they are more like castanets.

I like the idea of having something foot operated, but don't want to move towards a HH stand and HHs. Ideally just something quite robust that i can stamp on.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas/products?

Where are you based Danny? If you are ever in London you might like to try out all the accessories and instruments I have developed. Cajons with integral bass drum and pedal, Pedal Carosel, foot percussion, and lots of other stuff.

Sho nuff, a few here:

The Jingle Stick screws onto foot pedal or hihat rod. Plenty of other stuff too, a few new additions made since these. Custom work undertaken.

Some videos, sorry about the awful sound and picture quality but you should get an idea:

Are you completely against having something that attaches to the cajon? Or have I just misread your post?

I have a "heckstick" for mine - fantastic and you can adjust it so it has an open sound or tight (more like a closed HH).

I use the Meinl Foot Tambourine while playing Cajon. Schlagwerk Cajon accessories are well made.

Thanks for replies all.

Captain – your creations look great. I don’t want to use the term “franken-drums” because that would imply it’s all bodged together, but clearly it is not. All looking and sounding (from what I can hear from the videos) great!

I’m not “against” something attaching to cajon – the Schlagwerk stuff does look really good. Basically, I find my hands quite busy doing “bass” and “snare” duties and my left foot is bouncing up and down anyway, so I thought I may as well put something on/under it.

I do like the look of the heckstick – quite expensive though!! Can you detatch it with the velcro? My cajon case only just fits the cajon so i couldn't leave it on permanently.

saw something for about £8 that you attach to your laces on your shoe on Thomann – nice idea, but I fear more jingle than I want. Perhaps a simple "strap" to control the jingle like the heckstick.

Hmmmm all food for thought!

I will have a selection of toys on show at NDF in September if you're interested. There will be one notable absence from my range....the one a big company has bought off me to produce and launch in January at NAMM, but don't tell anyone!

The woodskin guy is lovely! I contacted him a year or so ago and got a very nice, informative reply.
He's definitely the craftsman instead of the IT tech so he did apologise for not having the best of websites!

I use a Meinl Foot cabasa for my left foot when playing cajon. Expensive but I love the possibilities it's opened up for me.
James Mackintosh (Shooglenifty, The Unusual Suspects, Transatlantic Sessions etc.) sometimes stamps on a Rhythmtech Ribbon Crasher, it won't move around as much as just stamping on a tambourine.

@Captain Bubble: I absolutely love your ingenuity! I certainly hope we see far more of your creations in the years to come!

One a side note, I'm currently experimenting with LP Finger Shot Shakers (they only make a sound in one direction...) which I attach to my middle finger on each hand. It adds an extra bite to my playing!

It's easy enough to make a foot tam - I have a piece of old floorboard with a hole drilled in that takes a standard percussion rod to which I attach an LP tambo. Job done. I can stamp on it as much as I want. Only thing you need to add is some rubber or a slip mat underneath if you're on a wooden stage.
