Hey guys, pretty new to this forum, but i hear its really useful and iv had a burning question that i cant seem to figure out myself!

Can anyone give me any ideas as to what snare drum Miguel Demelo from Tribes uses? il link one of the songs from the album, but i really want a similar studio sound to this, but dont want to keep buying snares until i find one!

Any help or pointers for skins/mics etc would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers :)

Welcome James, nice to have you here!

Afraid to say that that snare drum 'sound' is much more a function of the rooms, mics, EQing and processing than the drum itself. Better to find a drum you like in-person and then get to know the setup/tuning/room/recording possibilities about drum tuning and recording in general. You can make an average drum sound great with setup, room and processing; you can't make a great drum sound good in an average room.

Hello there!, I agree with flurbs, Choose a drum with the correct shell material (wood, metal, perspex or whatever he uses) and suitable heads, and from there it's up to you. Unless you have your own studio don't waste too much effort trying to copy what has been achieved on a recording.

Sounds like a Ludwig Acrolite to me.

Sitting on top of the mountain isn't the most interesting bit of the climb. Sitting at the bottom aint much fun either.

Thanks for the great advice, i must admit iv been in the studio a lot over the years but never really experimented with the different mics and rooms we use so thats probably the best idea. Great shout on the acrolite call, there not to expensive either and after looking at some of the demo videos on youtube i think i might give one of those a go next too!
