Afternoon all!

I'm toying with the idea of getting a couple of Flats 10" toms to use as extra voices on the kit. I'd like some extra sounds but, because I sit quite low and like to have the hats and ride close in, it's quite tricky to find places for more than one normal depth drum.

The only concern would be the difference in volume between the flats and my meaty oak custom toms, although I would tune the flats higher to achieve more projection.

Just wondering if any forummers have incorporated these into their set up and how they got on!

Cheers

VM

I use Flats Lite toms as part of my portable kit, & I'd say they're quieter than regular toms. They're also not that easy to tune high, due to the design, there's a limited tuning range. They sound good for what they are though, well worth a try.

+1

I've gigged with Flats, but they are very limited especially if used with a full depth set up, go for rototoms

...or the ludicrously expensive, but extremely loud dw mini toms. Use an 8 occasiobnally and it certainly holds its own against standard toms.

or check out some mini timbales if you like the idea of something high-pitched.

There's quite a few companies who make them, including LP & DW.

Ah, you've reminded me of the Tama timp toms I tried once! £99 for the pair, wonder if they're still doing them...
