A mate brought a huge desk of some sort (I'm not a gear geek, dunno what it is) for us to play with yesterday in our village hall kitchen studio. It was awesome.... He had some top notch mics as well, and tons of amps and toys and stuff. Happy days! Got the drums done for 4 tracks, Bass is mixing right now, should have a decent version of the song I posted last week pretty shortly...

DRUMPORT:
Now with a regular Aquarian Classic reso head last time around, we had to EQ the bass drum to absolute death to get a decent sound. With the Drumport, just the raw sound was amazing. I love the look of it, but I was mildly skeptical about the difference it would make in terms of sound quality until yesterday. Completely awesome. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Hey all!
I'm also a recent convert to a Drumport!
Really liked the idea and look, but was unsure till I actually heard one on a kit at a festival gig!
They really boom and spread the sound! I had to have one!
I'm a pro Rock player playing 90% of the time unmic'd in small/med rooms and the sound huge.
Didn't have to tweak my emad head at all, the only thing I noticed was the beater head pushes forward more as no front head to send air inside back at you!
But in a good room the extra spread/boom is superb!
I'm looking forward to recording with mine and experimenting the mic placements.
Any advice on what you found best Sharklaar???
Cheers
M

Hey dude

In my opinion it sounds better than my previous head with no mic - from behind the kit I get more attack from it and when I'm out of the room and bass player has a cheeky go on my kit it's definitely clearer.

We have only had one session recording with the drumport, we got best results having the mic just outside the head, maybe an inch or two from the hoop, higher than the beater, pointing slightly downwards and towards the floor tom side. Because the hole in the middle is massive, it still picks up plenty of attack so we didn't have to mic the batter head separately, and having the mic further from the batter meant it picked up plenty of bottom end and BOOM. We were using an AKG D112.

We had to bin that session's recording because of snare and hi-hat problems, but next week when we do it again I'll get some sound samples of various setups with and without the drumport.

Hey! - Yes no doubt acoustically a Drumport is worth having in every way!
Will def have a go mic-ing up like you suggest.. (almost like a guitar cab!?!?!)
Would love to hear your finding on your next recording!
Keep thumping those tubs - and boomin' that Drumport! ;o)
