I have a DW 5000 Hi-Hat Pedal that I bought second hand a few years ago and it had been well gigged. The spring tension was a little fiddly to adjust and one day the whole internal spring mechanism fell out of the bottom upright tube. Since then it's not really been right in as much as getting the balance between space between each hi-hat cymbal and the clearance of the footboard to the floor board has been a pain and not where I want it.
Could it be the spring is shot? If so does anyone know where I can get a replacement (I remember buying a tiny screw for the pedal to fasten the footboard to the rod mechanism and it cost £4) without too much expense? Has anyone else had this problem and can offer any solutions?
Thanks

Yes absolutely and if the grub screws come misplaced or thread (which is very easy) then the thing falls apart, a bit of an Achilles heel that I feel contributed towards my current issues.
One thing I should have also mentioned (due to the grub screw issue) is that the spring tensioner (big knurled knob thing) may, depending on the tension set, come to rest on the foot pedal linkage connector instead remain in it's housing.
Does anyone want to buy this off me actually? ;-) |

| Good call Mark, lol, get a Tama Iron Cobra, kevlar strap model, just folds up/down, no grub screws, so easy to use, you can lean it in a little so there's less likely hood of "chavelling" of the stick collar, go check one out at your nearest store,, |

Ha! me, too...thought I was the only one with this problem!!! mark...have you solved the tension issue yet? I thought the same after I tried a new one in the shop - felt so much more positive than my pedal, which was second hand 2 years ago.Mind you, the cost of a new one sent me back to mine pretty sharpish! |

| I'm pretty sure after it fell apart one time (due to those pesky grub screws) that I put everything back in the right way. I think the spring may be gone and if that's the case will need a new one, how much it will cost from my local drum shop I do not know! |
